Original Lyrics about Life and Love through the lens of Country Music
Written to share ideas and inspire collaborations
by Troy Hiduke Campbell

I love how country music can capture universal feelings in specific stories.
These original country lyrics combine my love of country music with my psychology research (Duke University PhD) on topics relevant to country (grit, happiness, balance), concept design work (Disney, Netflix), and life experiences.
I write lyrics to capture ideas and provide proofs of songs to be later transformed by talented musical artists. I also use lyrics in lectures such as, “Saddle Up: Understanding the Science of the Good Life through Country Music Lyrics.”

Real Lyrics, Fake Music
I can't sing and I can't play guitar, but I can write.
So, I write lyrics, share them in text, and also in AI music demos. I do not view these AI demos as real music, only as vehicles to share the ideas and words to inspire real collaborations.

Why I Love Country Music
If you like a country song, you know all the words.
I've always loved songs, but I could never carry a tune.
So, my only creative entry point to songs were the lyrics.
And country music especially appealed to me because of how central the lyrics are to the songs.
Unlike other genres, country music can't hide behind a guitar solo, beat, or lyrics that just sound good. In country, the lyrics have to tell a clear story.
For this reason, and also because of how sincere, literal, and playful it can be, country has always deeply resonated with me.
Professional Bio
After beginning in the arts and working in concept design and research for Disney, I earned my PhD in consumer psychology from Duke University, where my dissertation was about why people enjoy stories and lyrics. After that, I worked as a marketing professor at the University of Oregon, studying and teaching about storytelling, design, happiness, memory, and entertainment.
Today, I work on concept design, innovation, and storytelling for Disney Imagineering, Nike Innovation, Netflix Consumer Insights, YouTube, Vans Skateboarding, and many others. Over the years, my projects have led to headline grabbing science, advances in academic theory, and design changes to the world's biggest entertainment products.
Here at Hiduke House, my personal scientific mind, artistic heart project, I create original ideas, artwork, and design concepts, including lyrics.
